GLENDORA SIMONSON  -  Improvisation and Abstract Quilts, like Abstract Art, do not attempt to be realistic. They use shapes, forms, colors and textures to create its effect. Improv quilts allow the focus to be the impact and relationships of color, line and texture. Using applique and piecing techniques, quilters create abstract quilts that are often embellished with hand and machine stitching. Abstract and Improv Quilts are part of the Art Quilt Category. 
It's OK to take a chance and explore the unknown when making ABSTRACT or IMPROV QUILTS.  If this is your first time, try going small with a miniature instead of a large quilt.  The best part is, there are no quilt police!

12 to 16 assorted 12.5” fabric squares (include a variety of prints, as well as orphan patchwork blocks). 
Additional 2.5” strips of fabric.
