African Mosaic Quilting
African Mosaic Quilting By carefully arranging 2" squares of African prints and other fabrics so that one color range flows gracefully into the next, students create an artistic, mosaic-style wall hanging, as shown in the pages of African Accents! The effect is fresh and dramatic, with prints from such West African countries as Senegal, Mali, Ivory Coast and Ghana. Students will work with the African Mosaic Quilt Kit. Design tips and ideas for other projects will be given. Kit fee and access to a "community box" of extra scraps included. Sewing machine required for finishing. Additional fabrics can be purchase during class. Class length: about 5 hours.

Mudcloth Covered Journal
Students will cover a blank journal with mudcloth using professional no-sew techniques. Includes an informal discussion of journaling styles, the holistic benefits of journaling, and tips for starting or maintaining one's journal. All supplies are included, including mudcloth in a range of colors. Class length: about 2-2.5 hours. Mudcloth Covered Journal
 
Kuba Appliqué Project
Kuba Appliqué Project Students will create an appliqué pillow or small wall hanging based on the principles of authentic Kuba appliqué from Central Africa, using readily available craft materials. The class will also explore the origins of Kuba raffia fabrics and their influence on other art forms. Class length: about 2.5 hours. Sewing machine & basic sewing supplies required.

Sew up a one-of-a-kind fashion tote, in bold geometric, texture-rich Kuba fabric. Each piece is handcrafted in Central Africa. Learn special tips for reinforcing and stabilizing this unique fabric. Self-Portrait Doll
Kids' Workshop: Sassy Doll Participants will decorate a cloth doll to express some aspect of themselves, whether physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, etc. Muslin doll bodies are pre-assembled, and available in a range of skin tones. Choose from the selection of fabrics, beads and embellishments available in class, or bring your choice of African fabric print to dress your doll. A combination of easy hand sewing and gluing techniques will be used, according to each student's preference & skill level. Class fee includes materials to complete one doll per student. Class length: about 2.5 hours.

Class Registration Policy: We'll confirm your registration by phone or email before the class. Sessions cancelled by Cultured Expressions or the event’s host will be refunded. A student who cancels in advance will be given a credit toward a future class or CE event. Sorry, no refund or credit for "no-shows". In case of a weather-related cancellation, you will be notified by phone, with the option of a refund or credit for a re-scheduled class.
