Hands-On Workshops

African Mosaic Quilting
Our most popular workshop features our pre-cut quilt kit. By carefully arranging 2" squares so one color range flows gracefully into the next, you create an artistic, mosaic-style quilt. Design tips and ideas for other projects will be given. Kit includes 200 2" squares, one yard of pre-printed 2" fusible grid for easy assembly, and instructions. 5 hours.
-------------------------------

Color Block Batik Tote
Show off your favorite color scheme in rich 7" squares of jacquard batiks from Ghana. Suitable for all levels from confident beginner to advanced. Embellishments & additional fabrics available for purchase during class, or students can bring in their own. 4-5 hours.
-----------------------

Embellished Mini-Quilt with Fabric Beads
Create a collage-style mini quilt (11"x14") with bogolan from Mali and jacquard batiks from Ghana, then add color, texture and surface interest with West African beads, decorative yarns & other accents. Stitch by hand, by sewing machine, or both. Create fabric beads and other fun fabric embellishments perfect for quilts, jewelry, and general crafts. 4 hours.
-----------------------
Kuba Raffia Designer Handbag
Sew up a one-of-a-kind fashion tote, in bold geometric, texture-rich Kuba fabric. Each piece is handcrafted in the Congo region of central Africa. Choose barrel or classic carryall style. 5 hours.
--------------------------
Mudcloth Covered Journal
Professional no-sew techniques are used to create a personal journal - record your daily thoughts, nightly dreams, even to-do lists with Afrocentric style! Discussion of types of journals, tips for keeping one and more. Includes all materials; optional embellishments available for purchase. 2-3 hours.
--------------------------

Lisa's Bangle Bag
